We are headed to Disney world in may... I have a 1 year old son and a 4 1/2 years old daughter. Will my 1 year old be able to get on any of the rides (with myself or my husband of course)? Do you have any tips on things to do specifically for a 1 year old?

Hi Ashley!  Not long now until your Walt Disney World vacation!  You are going to have such a great time seeing all the wonder and smiles on your little ones faces!  I am happy to tell you that there are many attractions that you will be able to take both of your children on.  With the exception of the "mountain rides", and just a few others, everything is 'child-friendly', as long as your kids are wanting to ride - I say this, because my own kids were often a little hesitant with some of the darker rides like Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean.  You will have to decide before riding these types of rides if they might be better left for a future visit when they're a bit older.

For young children, it really is best to let them decide how much interaction they want with the characters. Some kids want hugs and can't wait to meet them, while others are happy to observe from afar.  Again, it's hard to know in advance how your children will react and you will have to judge at the time.  Your 1 yr old will probably be more than happy to just sit in the stroller and observe all of the magical sights and sounds in the parks.  And be sure to schedule some quiet time in the afternoons if you sense that a melt-down is imminent. I have seen many unhappy children who have reached their limit, and with a couple of hours of down-time, the situation could be totally reversed.

I'm limited by space here, but I would be happy to answer any other questions or give you some more advice on how to make the most of your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World.  Please don't hesitate to ask me.  Have a magical day Ashley!
