We are headed to Disney in mid-August with our 18 month old. We are staying at the Contemporary and I am trying to understand the magic bands. Will my 18 month old son have to wear one? Will it be small enough for his tiny wrist? Just trying to plan ahead!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Matthew!

I love that you are planning ahead! Your trip is just around the corner! Are you too excited to sleep yet?

Currently, MagicBands are being tested by pre-selected Guests staying at Disney World Resorts. Guests that are selected to participate in the testing phase may receive a letter or email prior to their trips with instructions.

Among other things, MagicBands will serve as your room keys and park tickets. Because Guests under 3 years of age do not need a ticket to enter the parks, your 18-month old will not need a MagicBand.

Once the testing phase is over and MagicBands are available to other Guests sometime later this year, Guests will have the option to receive a card instead of a MagicBand that will include the same features. MagicBands will be optional.

Disney understands that a lot of their Guests are little Mouseketeers and designed MagicBands so they can be adjusted to fit small wrists.  Guests should keep in mind that they won't be required to wear MagicBands on their wrists.  They can be snapped on the handle of a purse, belt or other item. The important thing is to remember to keep them in a safe place.

Here is a link to some Frequently Asked Questions about MagicBands recently posted on the Disney website that will give you some more information about them if you are selected to test them during your trip or once they become available later this year.

Please feel free to visit again with any other questions. We'll be hEAR for you up until you embark on your pixie dusted trail!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
