We are headed back to WDW at the end of April and will be staying on property. We will have a rental car this trip because we are visiting family at the end of the trip. Is it better for us to drive ourselves to the parks or take the resort buses?

    Hi Autumn,

Thank you so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. We on the panel love helping guests to plan magical vacations!

My family often rents a car when we visit Walt Disney World. While we are at Walt Disney World, we do like to drive to the theme parks from our Walt Disney World resort hotel. We like to be able to head to a theme park the moment that we want to, and also leave the moment that we want to, and driving our rental car allows this. We find it easy to navigate around Walt Disney World - the signage is fantastic for wherever you want to go! Also, if you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel, you can park at the theme parks for free.

I do also love the resort transportation provided by Walt Disney World, and I understand why many guests choose to use it exclusively. It is convenient, and you do not have to think at all about getting from one place to another. We will sometimes use Walt Disney World transportation when we find the transportation itself to provide a wonderful experience, such as riding from Disney's BoardWalk Inn to Disney's Hollywood Studios on a leisurely boat ride.

I will say that one exception to our preference for driving to theme parks is Magic Kingdom. If you drive to Magic Kingdom, you will need to take a ferry boat or monorail from the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom. If you use Disney transportation from your resort, be it the bus or boat or monorail, you will be dropped off right at the Magic Kingdom without the need to take an additional ferry boat or monorail. Magic Kingdom is one theme park where I do not believe that it is a good idea to drive your own car.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Autumn! Please do let us know if you have any further questions.
