Hello! we are headed to AOA 3/12-3/17.We have magic bands from Oct 2015, will we get to pick new magic bands or will we need to re-use the bands from 2015?

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for your great question! Walt Disney World resort guests currently are entitled to a new MagicBand with each resort stay, so you and your family certainly can customize and choose new ones for your upcoming vacation.

Frequent guests have the ability to decline MagicBands if they already have a recent one (or if, like me, they already have at least one in every color.) Since yours are two years old, I would recommend you get new ones. The batteries are designed to last at least two years so yours likely will still work just fine, but no need to take a chance.

Plus, you might be among the first to receive the new MagicBand2 design, which will be released resort-wide soon. Commemorative versions of the new MagicBand design, which features a pop-out disc that can be worn on a lanyard or clip as an alternative to the bracelet, already are available in limited release for purchase

No word yet on when the new designs will be released for resort guests. I just received my MagicBands for a January visit, and they were the original design. So stay tuned!

Wishing you a magical visit to Walt Disney World after a two-year hiatus! I'm sure you will find lots that's new along with your long-time favorites. You may want to get the My Disney Experience Mobile App to keep track of all your plans. Now, it even features step-by-step directions for navigating throughout the Walt Disney World property. Enjoy!
