We are going to see HDR (7:15 show) this summer. Is there anything else we should stop and do/see at Fort Wilderness before or after the show, while we are there? Thanks!

Hi Irene! My husband and I practically live at Fort Wilderness every fall and enjoy our time there. To us it is like a hidden secret of Walt Disney World and there are many things to see and do.

One of the things I enjoy doing is visiting the Disney stables which are right next door. Pony rides are available for the young toddlers but that option closes at 5pm. But you can definitely enjoy walking around and visiting Cinderella's ponies and the large draft horse used in the Magic Kingdom parades. There is also a small display of historical use of horses at all Disney parks and a large calliope that was often part of the Magic Kingdom parades.

You might also enjoy reserving a 30 minute carriage ride before or after the Hoop Dee Doo show that evening. It will take you through some of the camping loops which is fun and relaxing. During holiday times they are especially fun since many campers decorate their sites.

The Chip and Dale Campfire Singalong will probably not be available to you as it likely will conflict in times with your show but you can check the schedule when you arrive at Disney.  This is a fun event with live music and Chip and Dale leading you in dances and songs. It is followed by a movie under the stars.

Finally, there is a fun little trading post store to check out for unique to Fort Wilderness gifts. If you still have some extra time there is a large playground area and some fun sidewalk games out for the kids to enjoy. Checker games can be found on the porch for adults to try their luck at.  Whatever you do it will be a fun experience for the entire family.
