We'll be having dinner in Norway in December 2010. My daughter is 11 and I fear that the adult menu items are rather "unique" for her taste buds. Could you please tell me what's on the cold buffet and if the waiters will allow substitutions?

    Hi Jennifer,

We recently ate at Akershus with our 11 year old.  He's not a picky eater, but I think I have a pretty clear idea of what your child may or may not find appealing.  The cold buffet is basically a glorified salad bar.  Yes, there are some unique, prepared salads and items like smoked salmon, but there is also lettuce, sliced cheese, a few vegetables, bread and shrimp -- basic items.  I'm sure she could find something appealing.

As far as entrees, my son had the pork chop, and he loved it!  The Kjottkake sounds exotic, but it's basically just a meatball served with mashed potatoes.  Of course, I would be willing to bet that your daughter could also order an adult sized portion of a child entree.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
