I am having a birthday celebration at Disney at the end of May. Our stay happens over two weekend grad nites. I know DCA closes early, I am wondering how the CMs know who is with grad nite and who is not. How does the closing of DCA work?

Howdy, Erecca, and welcome back to planDisney! We're happy that you're back and that we can be of service to you again!

Thanks for bringing your question to us and I'd like to wish you a very happy early birthday! I can't think of a more magical place to spend your birthday celebration than the Happiest Place on Earth. Be sure to collect your complimentary Birthday Button when you enter the Parks. We would all love to celebrate right alongside you! From In-Room Celebrations to having your very own Mickey Mouse Celebration Cake delivered to select table-service restaurants during your visit, there are plenty of ways to make this birthday something to remember!

I checked the Entertainment Schedule and you are correct that Disneyland Resort Grad Nite will be occurring on May 19 and 21 at Disney California Adventure. This is a time honored tradition tracing back to the early 1960s and many Southern California families consider this a rite of passage. Disney California Adventure will be closing at 9 p.m. to the general public. High school seniors registering for the event will be given a wristband which will be used by Cast Members to recognize who is attending Grad Nite. The closing of the Park will be like any other night but there will be Cast Members checking wristbands for anyone venturing deeper into the Park as the night progresses.

If you would like to avoid the crowds for your birthday, I would recommend making Rope Drop at Disney California Adventure and getting as much done as you can before Park Hopping over to Disneyland Park for the rest of the day. Consider adding Genie+ to your ticket to save even more time from waiting in standby queues. And wear that Birthday Button proudly!

Erecca, I hope that you found this helpful and that you have a fantastic birthday visit to the Disneyland Resort! Please feel free to visit us again if you have any further questions leading up to your trip! We at planDisney would love to help!

    Have a Magical Day!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
