I haven't been to Disney since I was a kid and now I'm wanting to plan to take my young son for the first time. Is it better to book a package in advance or wait until closer to your travel dates and see what deals come up?

    Melissa:

Our family has found that the best deals with Disney come about three to six months out from our vacation dates.  Most of the "last-minute" deals were offers that have been out for months--and if you wait until the last minute, you may not get the resort you want or have the ability to get the dining reservations you'd like.

I keep an eye on sites like www.mousesavers.com for Disney "sales" both on and off-property in addition to checking in at www.disneyworld.com.

If you're worried about booking your vacation and then finding a better deal, I'd recommend making your reservations through a certified Disney planning specialist instead of booking your trip online yourself.  Most will monitor the new packages as they come out and will apply the savings.  If you book the trip yourself, you'll be responsible for watching out for better deals and calling Disney.  As long as you make the changes farther than 45 days out from your arrival, there are usually no penalties.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
