    Hello! I am happily planning our first trip to Disney World. We are going 12/30/12 - 1/5/13. Any advice and tips would be appreciated greatly. We are staying offsite to save a little money. Tips for all, packing due to weather, budget, must see, etc.

    Walt Disney World for New Years AND it's your first visit to see Mickey?  How fun!

    My biggest tip for money saving is to bring your own drinks.  You can ask for complimentary cups of ice or ice water, so we bring in our own soda.  No need to keep it cold, just grab a cup of ice and you're good to go!  

    Weather in January is tricky.  It can be rather cool, but last year it was on the warmer side.  The key to Florida weather is to layer.  Wear a comfortable pair of jeans and pack another.  You can switch off wearing them during your vacation.  I would even pack a pair of capri pants in case you get warmer weather during that week.  It will be easier to figure out packing once your trip gets closer and you can get a feeling for what kind of winters we are having in Florida.

    Ask for Disney gift cards as gifts for the holidays!  I had been collecting a nice stack of gift cards that paid for almost everything on our Disney vacation last week.  You can use gift cards pretty much anywhere on property including gift shops and restaurants.

    Since I don't know how many in your family are traveling or ages, I suggest sitting down as a family and exploring the Disney World website.  Have each person pick one thing they they don't want to miss and work your plans around those things.  

    Purchase souvenir in advance!  You can often find the same merchandise in the Disney Store online than in the parks  and you might be able to find a coupon code as well!
