What happens if there are thunder showers? Do they close the park?

Hi Deanne! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

In less than one week you will be experiencing an Incredible Summer at the Walt Disney World Resort. Hooray! I'm sure you are busy with all of your last-minute preparations for your magical vacation.

I have been caught in rain showers and thunderstorms many times when visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth." In the summer, I have come to expect an evening thunderstorm because that is pretty typical Florida weather. I have good news for you, though! Most attractions continue operating during the rain with a few that may close temporarily for very heavy rain or lightning in the area.

My family and I just put on ponchos in the rain and continue enjoying our trip! Since many queue lines for attractions are under cover or inside, we are usually only in the rain long enough to walk to the next attraction. This is also a great time to stay dry by looking around the shops or catching a show like the interactive story-telling experience of Enchanted Tales with Belle in Magic Kingdom Park or For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The Walt Disney World Resort does an excellent job of balancing Guest fun and Guest safety, so I think you'll find that you can still have a wonderful time ... even if it rains! Check out these other tips from my fellow Disney Parks Moms Panelists for more rainy day ideas.

    Enjoy your upcoming trip, Deanne!
