Hi Valerie, and welcome to planDisney! We’re so happy you found us and sent in your question. We truly love helping plan magical Disney vacations, so you’ve come to the right place!
This is a great question about what happens when a ride goes down and things feel a little less magical! If an attraction temporarily closes, you will usually see your
Lightning Lane pass convert to a Multiple Experiences Pass in the
My Disney Experience app. This happens pretty soon after the closure. What this means is that your Lightning Lane becomes a flexible pass that you can then use on another attraction. While it won’t include every ride in the park, you’ll have a list of attractions to choose from. You can also hold on to the pass and use it on the original attraction you booked if the ride re-opens.
This is where strategy comes into play. The good news is you can immediately book your next Lightning Lane, even while your Multiple Experiences Pass is still active. However, you’ll need to decide whether to hold on to it and wait for the ride to re-open. You'll be able to return any time for the remainder of the day when it is has re-opened. If it’s a very popular ride like Slinky Dog Dash, and Lightning Lane return times are likely gone for the day, you might want to wait a bit to see if it re-opens. If you use the Multiple Experiences Pass on another attraction, you may not be able to get another Lightning Lane pass for that ride later in the day.
Valerie, I hope this helps keep your day on track if an unexpected ride closure happens! Sometimes it’s a Lightning McQueen kind of day. Quick pivot and keep on going! If you have any more questions, be sure to
come back and see me. I’m happy to help add a little extra magic to your Disney vacation planning!
Your pal,
Casey
