What happens if it rains at Disneyland? Do the rides, scheduled appearances by characters and shows continue as scheduled?

Howdy, Heidi, and thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m so excited for your upcoming visit to the Happiest Place on Earth!

As a Southern California resident, I can attest to the cooler, cloudier weather we have experienced this past week. The forecast has changed a lot the past few days, and currently, it looks clear for your arrival this Saturday, May 11, 2019! I'm crossing my fingers and throwing some pixie-dust that it remains that way!

At the same time, I have to admit I also enjoy the cooler, rainier days at the Disneyland Resort. Though it can be a bit harder to navigate with my little ones, rainy days can still be plenty of fun at both theme parks. Not only do you get the chance to sport a rain poncho, (which you can purchase at the Resort) but crowds tend to be smaller as well. Most attractions and indoor shows will remain on schedule, but for the safety and comfort of Guests and Cast Members, certain attractions and shows may close temporarily during inclement weather, including Alice in Wonderland, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, Gadget’s Go Coaster, The Mad Tea Party, Main Street Vehicles, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and Storybook Land Canal Boats. At Disney California Adventure Park, you can expect temporary closures for these attractions on rainy days: Golden Zephyr, Goofy’s Sky School, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, and Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.

As for Character Experiences, I’ve seen Characters make their way inside The Disneyland Story Presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln for drier meet-and-greets. If a parade is canceled due to weather, every effort is made to still perform the Rainy Day Cavalcade of Characters down Main Street, U.S.A., so Guests can still catch a glimpse of their favorite Character cruising by.

If you’re unsure about possible attraction closures, I recommend visiting City Hall in Disneyland Park, or Chamber of Commerce in Disney California Adventure Park for updated information. You can also download the Disneyland app, which is an awesome handy helper for finding information within both theme parks.

Rain or shine, I hope you have a magical visit to the Disneyland Resort this weekend!

Meet the Panelist: Kristin, California

Greetings from sunny California! I live less than an hour from the Disneyland Resort, and have been an Annual Passholder (and now a Magic Key Passholder) for more than 20 years! As a mom of three kids ages 5-10, I consider myself an expert at navigating the Disneyland Resort with little ones. My family of five can’t get enough of the magic and happiness we encounter every time we step foot on Main Street, U.S.A. I look forward to sprinkling pixie dust on your next visit to the Happiest Place on Earth! Learn More About Kristin
