Hiya Maria,
Welcome to planDisney! I am super excited to answer your question about our new friend Genie. Just like the three wishes Genie grants Aladdin, when you use
Genie+ strategically, you can open up a whole new world of possibilities.
On my most recent visit to Walt Disney World Resort, we tested out this very scenario you brought up. My significant other secured his Genie+ reservation for the out-of-this-world
Space Mountain, and I, being a little more cautious, opted out of adding that particular reservation. I then browsed Genie+ and decided that I wanted to reserve the special seating for
Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade (much more my speed) for the both of us. When I went in to do so, my Prince Charming was unfortunately not eligible for the Genie+ reservation because he already had booked one during his window. The way that Genie+ services work, you either have to wait to make another selection after two hours or until after you head into your previous Genie+ reservation (whichever comes first). In our case, his reservation hadn’t happened yet, and it had not been 120 minutes yet, so I couldn’t add him to the Genie+ Festival of Fantasy Parade selection I was making. Based on the scenario you mentioned in your question, you also (depending on when your family member tried to secure the 9:30 am selection) would need be able to be added to both the 10:30 am attraction selection and the 9:30 am selection. If your family member weren’t on your existing reservation, they would be able to sign up for the selection they wanted, or they could wait until 10:30 am or two hours after you made the initial reservation for you all to ride together.
I know Genie+ can be a little tricky initially, but once you get the hang of it, it should be as smooth as a magic carpet ride of Agrabah! Just like Genie, we hope that we can be the “power in your corner.” If there is anything else you need, please come back and see us.
Happy Planning,
Ashley F.
