Hi Suzanne, and welcome to planDisney!
I know all too well about having back surgery and how it can affect you, especially when you want to be engulfed in the magic of
Walt Disney World Resort! I can tell you that you can create some special memories for you and the rest of your travel party with a bit of planning.
You have a couple of options when it comes to
renting an ECV or
wheelchair for your personal use. You can rent one when you arrive at your planned theme parks, but you will need to return it when you leave for the day. The cost to rent an ECV or wheelchair can be rented for the day, or because you have plans to visit more than one theme park, you can pay the cost to rent for both days in advance; just be sure to keep your receipt handy. Another option would be to utilize the services of Disney’s Featured Provider, Scooterbug dot com. After having back surgery, even walking from the parking lot to your destination can be a chore, but having the ECV or wheelchair handy will help. They will drop it off at your resort before you arrive and pick it up from Bell Services the day you depart, so you will have access to it at all times while you are vacationing.
I believe what you may be referring to is the
Disability Access Service (DAS) program offered to “guests who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability.” If you will need access to DAS, you will need to
pre-register 30 days before your first park visit but no less than two days before your arrival.
Please let us know if you have additional questions; we are here to help.
Have a magical day!
Raquel
