Hi, We are going on a Halloween on the high seas cruise in September. We are staying in Disney resorts for 3 nights before the cruise. We plan on going to Hollywood studios. My question is my grandson wants to build a BB8 droid, can we take it on cruise?

    Hi Theresa!

So glad you stopped back by planDisney. Halloween on the High Seas itineraries are SPOOKTACULAR! Who doesn’t love to wear costumes and trick-or-treat while at sea? Disney Cruise Line brings the wow factor with festive decor like the Pumpkin Tree in the Atrium Lobby and  enormous jack-o-lanterns on the portholes.

I’m happy to hear you are planning a land and sea vacation to include some days at Walt Disney World! And if your grandson is a Star Wars fan, it’s a no brainer for him to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I am certain that on my next Walt Disney World vacation, my son will want to build a custom droid at Droid Depot...just like your grandson!I can totally relate to this because my teen’s favorite Christmas gift a few years ago was a remote controlled BB-8; he played with it nonstop!

Unfortunately, I can’t pull a Jedi mind trick like Obi-Wan and change the Disney Cruise Line rules. And droids fall in the category of remote controlled toy vehicles that are not allowed on a Disney cruise. Guess that DOES make them the droids that the stormtroopers are looking for after all! What you can do is place your grandson’s droid in your carry-on luggage. When going through security, let them know that you have a droid. They can tag and hold the toy until the completion of your cruise, and then you’ll pick it up on the morning you disembark (or leave them in your car if you have one parked at the port).

As it happens, store-bought lightsabers can be taken onboard, so young Padawans strong in the Force can still have these to continue their training. As you can imagine, lightsabers are far more common on a Halloween on the High Seas sailing or a Star Wars Day at Sea itinerary. Since you are planning a Halloween on the High Seas voyage, be sure to pack your costumes! With a Mickey's Mouse-querade Party following trick-or-treat time onboard, this fun and frivolity is not to be missed!

Theresa, feel free to drop by planDisney again if you have more questions. I promise all treats and no tricks! Wishing you a magical and memorable adventure at sea!
