Do you have to be a guest at the Polynesian on December 30 to view the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks from the beach?

Welcome to planDisney, Eric! I'm so glad to be able to answer your question today. Ringing in the New Year at Walt Disney World is an amazing experience, and I'm happy to let you know exactly what to expect when you're finding a spot to watch the fireworks.

The short answer to your question is: typically, yes. In recent years, access to the Polynesian Village Resort beach for the Fantasy in the Sky New Year's fireworks has been limited to registered guests at the Polynesian. Policies can shift a bit year to year, but the recent pattern has been that only those staying at the resort will be issued a wristband to use the beach viewing areas on December 30 and 31. So while we won't know this year's exact procedure until we're closer to the date, you should plan on the expectation that beach viewing is reserved for Polynesian guests and that wristbands will be required.

If you're not staying at the Polynesian, you still have great options. The most reliable way is to watch inside Magic Kingdom itself! Nothing beats being in the park for the soundtrack and atmosphere. Outside the park, good alternatives also include exploring viewing spots around the monorail resorts that aren't restricted. Just keep in mind that the Grand Floridian and Contemporary sometimes manage their own capacity and may also limit access or require wristbands in certain areas on these peak nights. A dining reservation at a monorail resort does not automatically grant beach access if the resort is using wristbands, so consider it a bonus if you get a view, but not a guarantee.

In the meantime, keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app and resort lobby signage in the days leading up to December 30. The resorts usually post specifics about wristband distribution times, restricted zones, and transportation guidance. If watching from the Polynesian is a must for you, the surest path is to book a stay there for that night. Otherwise, pick your favorite alternative spot, arrive early, and soak up the festive vibes. You'll still get an incredible show to ring in the new year!

    Have a magical day, Eric!
