We are a group of 5(Dad, Mom, Son-6, Daughter-10 and Grandma) experiencing DW for the 1st time 12/18-12/25. Is it necessary that we make dinner reservations for Disney's Backyard BBQ and Chef Mickey's? Is the dining plan a good idea for counter service?

    Hi Marika,

How wonderful that your are all heading to WDW for your first time!  And just around the corner, too!!

If you'd like to eat at the restaurants you mentioned, I would highly encourage you to make reservations since many restaurants do fill up quickly, especially Chef Mickey's.  You can check availability and make reservations by clicking here or by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

One nice feature of the dining plan is knowing that you have already paid for your meals; you don't need to try and predict a certain amount of money to set aside for that portion of your trip.  The Quick Service Dining Plan allows you two meals at a counter service restaurant a day, two snacks, and a refillable mug for everyone in your party.  If you click here, you can explore the restaurants that are included in the plan.  Another feature of dining at the counter service restaurants it that you don't need prior reservations, so that may provide you with some freedom and more choices. In addition, you can still eat at a table service restaurant (like the ones you mentioned in your question); they will just be an additional charge for that meal.  I'd take a look at the link above and see if those restaurants and the plan would suit your needs well; if so, it may be worthwhile for your family.  However, you do need to have booked a Magic Your Way Vacation Package to be eligible for the dining plan. It also needs to be purchased prior to your arrival (I'd do it at least 72 hours prior to your arrival) and will need to be paid for at that time.

Thank you for visiting the Moms Panel; please let us know if you have any more last minute questions.  Have a magical trip!!
