We have a group of 8 adults and 1 toddler (16 months), visiting WDW btw 12/25-12/31. Trying to decide on either two Fort Wilderness Cabins or one Saratoga Springs villa. Can you give me the pros and cons of both, cost is the same. Thanks.

Most frequent visitors to the panel know that I am a BIG fan of Fort Wilderness, but I will try to keep my bias in check!

Both options offer full-size kitchens (the two cabins will give you two) and two baths, but keep in mind that in the villas, someone's going to get stuck on the pull-out sofa, as it offers two queen beds, a set of bunks, and the pullout while the cabins will give you two double beds, two bunks and two Murphy beds which it sounds like you won't need.

What sets these two options apart is atmosphere: do you want an upscale, resort feel with tennis courts, golf, and minimal Disney theming?  Or a more rustic Christmas with outside patios and the smell of pine with Western appeal?  Both have boats: Saratoga's takes you to Downtown Disney and the fort's takes you to the Magic Kingdom while another takes you to the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge.

The true difference here may be the time of year you are visiting: Christmas.  You may not know that frequent visitors to the fort during the holidays decorate their cabins and campsites, much like you would at home.  Some will have multiple decorations--even inflatables--while others opt for a small lit tree in the window of their cabin.  Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks on the beach with a hot chocolate in your hand can help you ring in the New Year.

It truly comes down to whether you want a rustic or refined Christmas, in my opinion!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
