Greeting and salutations - My wife and I are planning a once in a lifetime 30th anniversary trip to Walt Disney World in Oct/Nov of 2022...my question is this; do they still allow veterans to participate in the flag retreat ceremony in the Magic Kingdom?

    Hi Scot! Welcome to planDisney.

First of all, a very early congratulations on 30 years of marriage! Here at planDisney, we love a happily ever after, and I'm delighted that you're planning an epic celebration of your love story! As a military spouse myself, I'd also like to thank you for your service to our country.

I'm so happy to confirm that, at this time, the flag retreat ceremony is indeed happening daily at Magic Kingdom Park. The Disney Parks Blog recently did a moving story on this tradition and the ways that Cast Members who are also veterans participate in the ceremony. I love watching this ceremony and have never done it with a dry eye. If you'd like to volunteer to be the veteran of the day during your visit, stop by Guest Relations inside City Hall in the morning to inquire. Many veterans volunteer to participate, so there's not a guarantee that you'll be chosen, but it doesn't hurt to throw in that you're also celebrating something special. While at City Hall, you can also request complimentary Celebration Buttons to wear throughout your trip so Cast Members and Guests know you're celebrating and can congratulate you on your anniversary.

Scot, I don't know if you've heard, but there's a year-long anniversary celebration about to kick off throughout Walt Disney World Resort. October 1, 2021, kicks off The World's Most Magical Celebration, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort. It sounds like you'll be visiting after the celebration ends, but I hope you enjoy following along with the festivities on the Disney Parks Blog - maybe you'll find some special anniversary merchandise or stories to get you hyped up for your very own magical celebration next year.

Your friendly planDisney panelists are here to help as you plan your anniversary visit, so please come back and see us! From romantic dinners to best places for a quiet cup of coffee to fireworks cruises and everything in between, we've got you covered. Happy planning!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
