Great site!!, Planning a trip for mid June for family of 5 (children 9, 7 and 5). Stuck between Port Orleans Riverside or the Cabins. Can you shed some light? Thinking two days at MK, one each at the other parks w/ downtime at the hotel. Thanks!!

I have had the pleasure of staying at both of the resorts you mentioned and each has its own unique charm and benefits.  Here are my thoughts:

Port Orleans Riverside - Southern charm and a laidback atmosphere abound at this resort.  With gorgeous, wooded grounds and the Sassagoula River flowing through, you'll find a stay here to be both peaceful and serene.  You will likely enjoy the convenience of an on-site food court as well as a table service restaurant and lounge for nightlife.  Transportation options include bus (to the parks) and boat (to Downtown Disney).

Fort Wilderness Cabins - Away from the hustle and bustle, a stay at the cabins lends to a feeling of solitude, even though you aren't far removed from the Magic Kingdom!  The resort is huge, and transportation by foot to the pool, restaurants, etc is not always feasible, depending upon the location of your cabin.  Your resort accommodations, though, are spacious and well-equipped.  A private patio with a barbecue grill offers a fun way to spend down time at your resort.  Transportation options include bus and boat (to the Magic Kingdom and other Magic Kingdom area resorts).

Though both resorts fall under the moderate resort category, a stay at the cabins will run you a bit more than one at Port Orleans Riverside.  That said--if it's not a financial burden--I would recommend it for a family that values down time at the resort.  While many of the recreation opportunities are available at both resorts, Fort Wilderness does edge Port Orleans out slightly in this department.  You will also be afforded more space to stretch out and spread out - often times a valuable commodity for larger families.

We've enjoyed our stays at both resorts.  As our family ages, however, my preference would be the Fort Wilderness cabins.
