Great Panel! Can you tell me the main pros and cons to staying at The Wilderness Lodge, and whether the WL truly has that deluxe hotel feel? Thank you for your help!

Hi Michelle! I have had the privilege of staying in all of the Deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World except for the Grand Floridian and the Boardwalk Inn which I have only visited.  Without a doubt, the Wilderness Lodge is my absolute favorite resort. The theming is amazing!  I actually feel like I have left Walt Disney World and Florida and have been magically transported to the Pacific Northwest.  It features both natural and Native American elements. The main building is modeled after Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The resort even includes a working geyser and hot springs down by the pool area.

Pros include having two table service restaurants, a food court, and boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds. My family especially enjoys dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe; we try to eat there even when we are staying at another resort. Taking a boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, especially at night, is also a magical experience. Having boat transportation to Fort Wilderness makes it easier to attend the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review and enjoy dinner there at Trail's End Buffet.

Some people say that not being on the monorail is a negative compared to the other Magic Kingdom resorts. I don't agree, however, except maybe when there is bad weather. The boats run very often and I don't think it takes that much longer to reach the Wilderness Lodge via boat than the Polynesian via monorail. The average room size is slightly smaller than rooms at the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, and Beach and Yacht Clubs.

My family really enjoys the Wilderness Lodge. My two sons love the pool and the special activities held at the lodge for kids; one of their all time favorite activity at any resort at Walt Disney World is the "duck race" that takes place at the pool area. Finally, the Wilderness Lodge is absolutely gorgeous for Christmas should you be traveling during that time of the year.
