Our grandson is 10 and we are wondering if he is too old to enjoy Magic Kingdom? He is frightened by haunted houses and also by roller coaster rides. He went to Universal 2 years ago and didn't particularly like the rides there.. scared. Any suggestions

    Hi Sue!

I can relate to your situation.  And the good news is, he is not too old for the Magic Kingdom and there will be PLENTY for him to do there.  In my opinion, nobody is too old for Magic Kingdom.  :)

There is a Haunted Mansion and 3 roller coaster rides (Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm) so you may want to avoid those attractions.  (However, I will mention that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a very tame roller coaster with no big dips.  I think if your grandson were to try this attraction, and sit in the front half of the train, he will be fine.)

Another potential watch-out for your grandson would be Splash Mountain.  This is a boat ride through the mountain with small plunges throughout.  It's the last, 5 story, 52.5 foot plunge (that you can see from the outside) which might scare your grandson.

He may or may not find some of the attractions in Fantasyland a little childish but i'm sure he will enjoy attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and maybe a walk through Swiss Family Treehouse to  name a few.

My suggestion would be to spend an afternoon with your grandson reviewing  the attractions in Magic Kingdom.  Many of the attractions on disneyworld.com include short video snippets (I've hyper-linked a couple above) that will give you and your grandson a better visual of what the attraction is like.

I hope you have a magical vacation!  Diane  :)
