    Hi my grandson asked me a question about the haunted mansion after our trip last sept.He wanted to know if the broken sining bust was made to look like Walt Disney I don't know can you help thanks

    Hi Francis,

    The Haunted Mansion is my favorite attraction at Disney World! I always mouthe the whole script beginning with "Welcome, Foolish Mortals, to the Haunted Mansion" every time I ride it. I don't do it out loud though because I don't want to annoy my fellow mortals by being a miss know it all sassy pants - ha!

    There is so much history behind this attraction.  Walt Disney wanted to put a haunted mansion in Disneyland when it was being developed and like all of his attractions, he put a tremendous amount of research into it. He didn't want a typical rundown mansion in his pristine park and told his Imagineers "We'll take care of the outside and let the ghosts take care of the inside". Unfortunately, Walt didn't live long enough to see the 1969 opening of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland.

    It is often rumored that the bust was made in Walt Disney's likeness and makes for a great story - it wasn't though. The projected faces on the busts were Thurl Ravrenscroft (Uncle Theodore) - he also did the voice of Tony the Tiger "Grrrrrr-REAT!", Jay Meyer (Ned Nub), Verne Rowe (Rollo Rumkin), Bob Ebright (Phineas Puck) and Chuck Schroeder (Cousin Al).
