I am a grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters who will be celebrating the oldest 4th birthday. I am trying to come up with a way to surprise her. Is there a program that would rent a costume to me? I wouldn’t want to walk around the park.

    Hi Teresa!

There is something so special about a Disney trip that spans generations. The magic is doubled when you get to share these precious experiences with family, especially grandparents. Whether it’s watching a parade together, enjoying the Happily Ever After fireworks hand-in-hand, or simply sitting down for a shared meal at a character dining experience, these moments will be cherished for years to come. And I’m certain your presence will make this birthday celebration more magical than they ever imagined.

While I don’t know of a rental program for costumes, I do have some exciting ideas to help make your grand reveal one for the storybooks! Whether you choose to surprise them at home, at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, or in the heart of Magic Kingdom Park, the magic is going to be incredible.

To surprise them at home, on the morning they’re set to leave for Disney, their bags will be packed, and the excitement is already going to be in the air. You can secretly arrive at their house, dressed in Mickey ears or even holding a "Surprise" sign. When they open the door, they’ll be greeted with you standing there, ready to join them on the trip! You could even bring along a small gift, like matching Mickey or Minnie ears or family T-Shirts for the whole family to wear, so they can all get into the Disney spirit before they even leave home.

For an extra layer of excitement, you could create a fun scavenger hunt leading them to clues about their trip. The final clue would lead them to YOU! The surprise of seeing Grandma at the end of the game would be the perfect way to kick off the magical adventure.

If surprising them at their hotel is the plan once they are settled in to their room, suddenly there’s a knock on the door. When they open it, there you are standing with open arms and a huge smile, ready to join in on all of the fun. You could make it extra magical with a Disney Balloon in hand.

One of my favorite ideas is using a “Capture Your Moment” photoshoot at Magic Kingdom Park as the big reveal! You could arrange for your granddaughters to start the photoshoot at Cinderella Castle with their parents, thinking it’s just a birthday photo session. And then, just when they’re posing for the camera, you walk up behind them and surprise them with a big “Grandma’s here!” hug. The photographer will capture their priceless reactions, giving you treasured keepsakes of this special moment.

No matter how you choose to reveal your surprise, your granddaughters will feel like the luckiest little princesses in the world to have their grandma with them. This trip will become part of the cherished memories they’ll carry with them always.

Wishing you and your family the most enchanting and heart-filled time together at Disney!
