I am a grandmother traveling with a grown son and 7 year old (adventurous eater) grandson. have the QS dining plan for convenience. Any tricks to getting a better value than it actually costs us without over indulging in junky foods?

    Hi Margaret,

I have good news for you! Walt Disney World offers copious healthy options throughout their restaurants, including quick-service restaurants. There are also numerous choices for adventurous eaters. Let me suggest a few of my favorites.

My go-to quick-service restaurant at Magic Kingdom is Columbia Harbour House, which includes great salads and healthy sandwich options. Epcot is a great place for adventurous eaters who want to stay healthy, with options like Tangierine Cafe in the Morocco Pavilion and Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion, which features vegetables grown in the greenhouses there. You may also want to explore the various Walt Disney World resort hotels for exotic and healthy food at quick-service restaurants, such as The Mara at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

When you are at Walt Disney World, look for the Mickey Check symbol, which denotes a healthy food choice. Also, many of the snacks that you can choose support a healthy lifestyle, such as a single piece  of fresh fruit or bottle of milk.

As for value using the quick-service dining plan, I think that you stated it well when you noted the convenience. Your meals and snacks will be paid for before you arrive so that you will not need to pay each time you eat. If price is a concern, you can calculate which restaurants have the most expensive options and order those; however, I think that it is best to go where you want to go and order what you want to eat. Another tip for getting your value is to be sure to use up your snack credits, which some guests forget to do. If you have snack credits left on the last day, stock up on snacks for your trip home.

Have a great time planning your magical vacation, Margaret!
