Ahoy, Terry!
Welcome aboard planDisney! Taking your grandkids on a Disney cruise sounds like a magical, memory-making voyage that will have your whole crew saying, "When can we go again?" Let’s chart the perfect course for your family’s high-seas adventure!
Since you're looking to sail from Galveston, you'll be setting sail aboard
the Disney Magic—which just so happens to be my favorite Disney ship! As Disney’s first cruise ship, it’s packed with classic Disney charm while still offering plenty of modern magic. With three grandkids in different age groups, you’ll love that there’s something for everyone, from the kids’ clubs to family activities to adult-exclusive spaces for the uncles and dad to enjoy when they need a little rest and relaxation.
Now, let’s talk staterooms. Since I wasn’t quite sure of your total crew count, I wanted to make sure you knew about the different sleeping arrangements. The
non-concierge staterooms sleep 3 to 5 Guests, with configurations that include a queen bed, a single convertible sofa, a ceiling pull-down upper berth (bunk), and sometimes a wall pull-down bed. Speaking from personal experience, I always like to note that the non-queen beds are about 72 inches long—which can feel a bit tight if you’ve got some taller sailors in your crew! If you need more space, you could consider multiple connecting staterooms to give everyone a little extra room to stretch out.
Since your grandkids are 14, 10, and 7, they’d each have their own youth space designed just for their age group! Your youngest will be enchanted by the
Oceaneer Club and
Oceaneer Lab, where they can explore Marvel Super Hero Academy, Animator’s Studio, and more. Your 10-year-old can float between the Oceaneer Club and
Edge, the tween space that’s perfect for their age. And your 14-year-old will love
Vibe, the hangout spot made just for teens. While they’re off having a blast, you and the other adults can enjoy some of the adult-exclusive spaces, like Keys, Fathoms, or Cove Café for a relaxing coffee break.
Now, I know Galveston is the most convenient port for your crew, but if you’re open to a little extra travel, I’d highly recommend considering a sailing from Port Canaveral or Port Everglades. Why? Because
Disney’s private destinations—Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay—are absolute paradise! My family and I have made some of our best Disney cruise memories there. The beaches, snorkeling, biking, and island barbecue lunch make these stops the ultimate highlight of any Disney cruise! Plus, sailing on a newer ship like the Wish or Treasure would give your whole family access to the Hero Zone, a space where all three grandkids and the adults can play together in an interactive sports and obstacle course area—something that isn’t on the Magic.
Terry, I hope this helps as you start planning an unforgettable Disney adventure with your grandkids! No matter which itinerary you choose, you’re in for a pixie-dusted voyage filled with laughter, adventure, and magical memories.
Sea ya real soon with luck in the air and magic everywhere,
Dustin
