We have granddaughter with Type 1 diabetes .Food is very closely monitored & weighed since she needs insulin based on intake. She has to travel with her kit, needles & insulin. Can we bring in her food since it must be weighed & monitored?

Greetings Rosemary, thank you for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Rest assure that your family will have a fun (and safe!) time at the Disneyland Resort. As a pediatric nurse, I've taken care of numerous children with Type 1 Diabetes. Counting carbohydrates and monitoring intake are so crucial. Due to your granddaughter's specific dietary needs, you are able to bring in food for her.

Both Disneyland and California Adventure have First Aid locations staffed with nurses. They can store your medications that require refrigeration. Sharps containers can be found at these First Aid locations, as well as in the restrooms throughout the Disneyland Resort.

With the amount of walking and activities you will be doing throughout the day at the parks, be sure to also pack some juices and snacks, keeping a close watch for hypoglycemia.

I hope this information helps in planning your upcoming trip to the Happiest Place on Earth! Please come back and visit me if you have further questions.

Meet the Panelist: Kiki, California

Greetings! I have been fascinated by the magic of Disney since I was a little girl; now that I am a mother of two, I love watching my children experience Disney Parks through their own eyes. I am also surrounded by fellow Disney-loving nurse friends whom I enjoy quick adults-only Disneyland Resort escapes or Disney Cruise Line voyages with. Whether you are planning your once-in-a-lifetime family trip or a short adults-only getaway to the Happiest Place on Earth, I am here to help!
