Hi Shirley,
How exciting to be with your granddaughter on her first trip to Walt Disney World! So much of what children enjoy at Walt Disney World is personal. Your granddaughter is at an age where she may be tall enough to start riding some of the more thrilling attractions, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. I know 6-year-olds who love this ride, and some who are scared of it. Planning for your granddaughter's personality will be key to planning an enjoyable trip.
A couple of ways to start planning before you go include ordering the
free Walt Disney World planning DVD. If you watch it with your granddaughter, she can start to get an idea of what some of the attractions are like, and which ones she might enjoy. Next, you can help her to
customize her own Walt Disney World theme park maps. Using this link, your granddaughter can put the attractions that she is most interested in on theme park maps - and have them delivered to her house before you even leave for Walt Disney World!
My daughter is close to your granddaughter's age, so I will let you know a couple of her favorites in each park. At the Magic Kingdom, she enjoys Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid as well as the Tomorrowland Speedway. A trip to Epcot is not complete without riding Spaceship Earth and coloring at the Kidcot Fun Stops in World Showcase. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, we must ride Toy Story Midway Mania and play on the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. At Disney's Animal Kingdom, we always ride Kilimanjaro Safaris and Kali River Rapids.
This is going to be such a fun trip for you, Shirley! I would love to help you plan more; however, I am limited in the amount of space that I have to reply. Please do write back if you have any further questions!
