We like the Grand Floridian, they like Port Orleans (other family). They want beach, we want a bit of luxury. Is there a hotel that meets in the middle to accommodate children under the age of 6? We like the monorail, they don"t mind the bus etc.

That's a tricky one Robyn, but I think I may just have a solution for you: Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

Because the Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort, your family will find that bit of luxury that you're looking for.  From the moment you walk into the lobby, you're sure to be impressed with the theming and beauty of your surroundings.  There is definitely a different feel to it than you'd find at the Grand Floridian, but still luxurious with a woodsy twist.  The other family will enjoy relaxing on the sunny beach of Bay Lake.  They will also appreciate the seemingly rustic surroundings as they discover the fun totem poles and wood carvings in the lobby.

Dining at the resort offers something for both families as well.  To indulge your luxurious side, you'll want to make reservations for Artist Point.  It's one of Disney's signature restaurants, and as such, it offers delectable menu items and an impressive wine list.  The more casual-minded family will have a rowdy time enjoying dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Transportation options, too, will suit both parties.  While you won't enjoy the convenience of the monorail, you will have access to a boat launch that provides quick delivery to the Magic Kingdom, or Fort Wilderness (great if you'd like to see the Hoop-Dee-Doo).  For transportation to the other theme parks, the water parks, or Downtown Disney you'll want to utilize the busses.

I also took pricing into consideration.  While the Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort, it's nightly rates fall right in between those of the Grand Floridian and Port Orleans Riverside.

Hopefully you will both find a little bit of Disney magic should your compromise lead to a stay at the Wilderness Lodge.  Hope I've helped!  :)
