Is the Grand Californian a good hotel for a five year old and an eight year old?

Hi David! Welcome to planDisney! Thanks so much for stopping by and asking this great question!

I'm so glad to hear you're planning a Disneyland Resort vacation! I'm lucky to have experienced Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa when my kids were this age and I'm happy to provide some insight. The Disneyland Resort Hotels are magical, and this one happens to be my favorite for a variety of reasons. The pool is always a huge factor for our family when choosing a hotel and the Pools at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa are great! The Redwood Pool has a 90-foot-long waterslide and there's even a Mickey Mouse-shaped Children’s Pool! Because your vacation will be during the summer, I highly recommend planning to have a pool day and renting a Poolside Cabana. You can reserve this up to 60 days before your arrival date by calling 1-714-635-2300 and selecting option 5. My favorite part of a pool day is lounging in a chair and enjoying items from the poolside menu while watching the kids have fun!

I also love the close proximity this hotel has to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. In fact, this hotel has many amenities, including its own special entrance to Disney California Adventure Park which lands you right in the Grizzly Peak area. My kids especially loved the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and I loved it too because it helped them burn off some energy while having fun! This entrance is also very convenient if your kids need to take a midday break back at the hotel or if you forgot something in your resort room.

You can also enjoy a variety of dining options at this beautiful hotel. If you plan to have a character meal, Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet at Storytellers Cafe would be a fun way to start the day. Who wouldn't love having unlimited Mickey waffles while seeing Mickey Mouse and his pals?!

I hope this information will help with your decision. I will say that my kids also loved staying at the Disneyland Hotel too! The best decision you can make is to stay in the magic and I would suggest choosing the hotel that you think your family will enjoy the most.
