We are going to goofys kitchen for dinner in February for my son's birthday with about 10 people. We want a birthday cake, but NOT one of those standard Mickey hat ones. Can we bring our own cake or order one from a downtown Disney bakery?

    Hiya, Stephen!

Thanks for bringing your question to us at planDisney. I am a big fan of Goofy's Kitchen, having many magical meals there with my family and friends. It's the perfect spot for a big birthday celebration!

While I personally love the Mickey Celebration Cakes, I can understand that they may not be for everyone with the limited flavor options. I spoke with a Cast Member this morning to confirm that, unfortunately, Guests are not allowed to bring outside cakes into table-service restaurants on property. I know you were hoping for better news!

All that being said, I think we can find a special way to bring some of your own magic into the celebration if you want to opt for your own sweet treat. Goofy's Kitchen is located inside the Disneyland Hotel, which happens to be my favorite hotel on property and one where I have spent quite a bit of time. While not exactly the same as blowing out the candles with Chip and Dale at your side, there are several sitting areas around the perimeter of the hotel that could seat your family if you wanted to bring your own dessert and just find another spot to enjoy it. These areas are outdoors, but covered. You can find them along the Fantasyland Tower on your way towards Downtown Disney District

Another area that might allow for celebrating, and for the youngest Mouseketeers to let out some energy, is located just across from Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney District. I just discovered it myself on my visit in December. There is a brand new grassy area between Parkside Market and Din Tai Fung that would be a great spot for picnicking or cake eating. There is even a convenient restroom for washing sticky hands afterwards.

Stephen, I hope this was helpful in providing some alternative magic! Be sure to get your son a complimentary "Celebration Button" when you arrive at the Disneyland Hotel. These are available at retail locations, and I bet the Cast Members at the front desk would be able to secure one for you. You never know what magic might appear while wearing a birthday button!

If you have any more questions in your planning, please come back to see us here at planDisney.

Wishing your son a fun-filled birthday!
