Good morning, We will be at WDW 8/2-9. I know that they have said that Gaiters aren't allowed because the don't go around the ears. Do you know if the gaiters that do go around the ears are allowed? Some are made with ear loops.

I am Incredibly happy to welcome you back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Meridyth. I’m also Incredibly happy that you will be able to enjoy the magic of the Walt Disney World Resort once again soon.

You’ve come to us with a Super question, Meridyth. Like Frozone, you apparently want to make sure you stay safe and cool during your visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth. As you are aware, at this time, all Walt Disney World Guests ages two and older, and all Cast Members must wear appropriate face coverings at all times except when dining or swimming.

Face coverings, either single-use or reusable, must:
     — Be made with at least two layers of breathable material
     — Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
     — Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
     — Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free

Disney’s health and safety protocols are based on guidance from government and public health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In accordance with this guidance, Walt Disney World Resort will not permit face coverings such as neck gaiters and open-chin triangle bandanas for purposes of preventing the possible spread of infectious disease. While I don’t pretend to be an authority on matters of public health, one possible reason that I can see for this is that most neck gaiters and similar coverings are not at least two layers thick and are not purposefully designed for the prevention of virus transmission.

You may occasionally notice different levels of adherence to guidance from health authorities by others you see in public. You may also witness varying degrees of enforcement. But as I have read reports of the first few days of Cast Member and Annual Passholder previews during the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort, I have been very impressed to see that Cast Members and Guests alike are working together to make visiting the Disney Parks Incredible.

Tony’s Tip: You may find compliant face coverings at a number of shops and online outlets, including from shopDisney.com. I happened to order some of those Incredibly cute masks from shopDisney. I love them, especially the Star Wars-themed masks. But if you happen to choose to order from any of these fun mask designs, note that my family and I have found them to run somewhat on the small side. So I recommend leaning toward larger sizes offered.

Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Meridyth. I hope you have a happy and healthy time during your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort.

    ~Tony
