Good morning! I am surprising my mom with a trip to Disneyland in December. I am doing this because she has cancer and wanted to ask about a disability pass because it’s hard for her to be standing for too long. Do I need to provide proof of her cancer?

    Welcome to planDisney, Sera!

I'm incredibly sorry to hear about your mom's cancer. My prayers are with your family. I think it's so wonderful that you're surprising her with a trip to Disneyland Resort. What a fantastic idea! I am confident that you'll make some magical mother-daughter memories at The Happiest Place on Earth.

Sera, it sounds like the Disability Access Service (DAS) will be "practically perfect" for your mom. DAS allows you to make attraction return time selections using the Disneyland mobile app. You can then use the Lightning Lane entrance instead of the regular standby entrance. This means your mom won't have to wait as long in line.

There are two ways you can register for DAS. The first option is to pre-register online before your visit. However, your mom would have to be present with you. If you're revealing your surprise before your trip, this might be the best option. Here's how you do it: Visit the Planning with Disability Access Service page of the Disneyland Resort website. If you log in to your Disneyland account and click on the "Request Live Chat" button, you can initiate the DAS Advance process. The live chat feature is available between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM (PT). As mentioned above, your mom will need to be physically present with you for the live chat. You'll also want your device to have a video camera. Depending on call volumes, you may enter a waiting room. You'll be able to speak to a Cast Member and they'll go through the process with your mom. She doesn't need to provide proof of her cancer.

If you don't get a chance to go through this process before you arrive, you have a second option. You can register for DAS when you arrive at Disneyland Resort. Simply visit Guest Relations at any theme park and mention that you would like to apply for DAS. Again, your mom would need to be present. She won't need to provide any proof of her cancer. A friendly Cast Member will be able to talk you through the process.

Once registered, this service is valid for the length of your ticket or up to 60 days, whichever is shorter. Have your mom download the Disneyland mobile app. On the day of your visit, tap on the three horizontal lines at the bottom right of the app. You'll see the DAS feature magically displayed. This feature will show a list of available attractions. If you tap on an attraction, you'll discover relevant information about that attraction, plus the next available DAS return time. If you tap that time, you'll then confirm the members of your party who will be joining your mom for the attraction. Just note that you may only book one attraction at a time.

I hope that's helpful, Sera. Thanks so much for choosing to be our Guest. Have a great time with your mom.
