Hiya Elizabeth,
Welcome to planDisney! I love the idea of having a memorable mother-son trip to Walt Disney World Resort! My littles are almost three and almost six months old, so I look forward to when we can start having solo adventures together.
Elizabeth,
Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour has also been high on my must-do list for a while. Unfortunately, since my littles are nowhere near 16, I've had to wait until my next kid-free vacation to experience it. I reached out to a Cast Member, and unfortunately, your son must be 16 years old with a valid photo ID verifying his age to participate in the Keys to the Kingdom Tour currently. In my experience, they also tend to be firm on these age restrictions. You can always reach out to a Cast Member in
Tours and Recreation and see if there is any flexibility, but it is not guaranteed.
I'm so sorry, Elizabeth. I know how much you and your son looked forward to this tour. I know it's not the same, but some other tours that will give you and your son a behind-the-scenes look at the magic of Disney World are Wild Africa Trek and
Behind the Seeds Tour—one of my favorite people, and alum panelist, Michelle did
Wild Africa Trek recently and she raved about it. She enjoyed learning more about the animals that call Animal Kingdom home, and the access to Kilimanjaro Safaris' savanna was unmatched! I know that whatever you all decide to do, Elizabeth, it will be magical because it's just you two. Please come see us if we can help you with anything else.
Happy Planning,
Ashley F.
