Good morning. Due to stomach cancer, I had to have it removed. Having no more stomach, I really don't eat much. I would like to know if it is possible for me to have the dining plan for children?

Bonjour Christian, and welcome to planDisney!

As someone whose father has also undergone surgery over the past year that affected his ability to enjoy eating at Walt Disney World Resort, I'm glad to hear that you've been able to recover from your gastrectomy to begin planning for your visit next March. For folks like my Dad who need to limit the kinds of food he eats and the amount, being able to plan ahead is very important and in these situations it's important to look at your options under the Disney Dining Plan to see whether you'll be able to make the most of this addition to your Resort Hotel Package.

I spoke with a Cast Member who let me know that unfortunately the current policy for anyone purchasing any of the Disney Dining Plans is that if you are 10 years of age or older, you are not eligible to purchase the children's package at the discounted pricing for those aged 3 - 9. This is determined by the details of everyone included in your Disney Resort Hotel Package with everyone's ages confirmed on My Disney Experience. (That said, I recently crunched the numbers and compared the menu pricing at the participating dining locations and based on what I calculated the Disney Dining Plan has the greatest value when you actively choose the items that cost the most and maximize the amount of snacks that you'll enjoy over your trip, which may not work for someone who does not eat as much to make it worthwhile.)

As a way to save on your budget for meals, preview options suitable for special dietary needs and avoid having to eat too much, you just might find it very useful to take advantage of Mobile Food & Beverage Ordering on your trip! Here you can take advantage of ordering from the Kids' Menu or even Sides on their own, and find value at locations that offer free fountain drink refills. At the end of the day you may just decide that the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan offers you the ease and simplicity of pre-paying for your meals without the commitment to larger Table-Service meal portions, but hopefully this helps you look at other options available to you Christian! We hope to see you here at planDisney again if you have any other questions or are in search of more planning tips and advice ahead of your next Disney adventure!

Wishing you all the best on your upcoming trip next year!
