Are the gondolas open to the air, or will they be enclosed and air conditioned? Im visiting in Mid September. Im sure that the dates for the Skyliner opening are still uncertain. How long do you think a trip from Pop to HS will take (compared to bus)?

Hey there, Eugene. Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

As it gets closer to time for the Disney Skyliner to take flight, I find myself getting more and more excited! You are correct, no set date has been released yet. I'd keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog in the coming weeks, when there is an announcement to be made that's the place! Speaking of the Disney Parks Blog, back in May there was an article published on the site talking about the unwrapping of the gondolas. If you haven't read that article yet, you should pop over and do so. It shows real life pictures of what they are going to look like. I love all of the fun designs. From what I understand, the gondolas themselves seem to be open air with cross vent circulation at the top to allow for air to flow freely. I honestly can't say how long it will take to get from Disney's Pop Century Resort to Disney's Hollywood Studios. I've read a few articles where  Disney officials have made statements saying something like most rides will be between 15 and 20 minutes with most being closer to 15. They will have a cruising speed of 11mph and will slow down to about 1mph when at the station for loading and unloading. Each gondola will hold 10 people, 5 on each bench, and there will be no standing. What I can say is that they seem to be going a lot faster than I expected them too. They've been doing some test runs and from what I've seen, I've been impressed.

Hopefully, during your upcoming trip you'll be able to take a ride in the sky on the new Disney Skyliner. Until then, just keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for all of the fun updates. Have fun!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
