Hiya Kristin! Thanks for stopping by planDisney with this great question!
Oh boy! I'm excited you are considering becoming a
Walt Disney World Annual Passholder! I'm dreaming of the day that I make this a reality for myself! While the Disney Pixie Dust Pass is currently the only option available, it's the perfect pass if you plan to frequent the parks on most weekdays. It's also very affordable compared to some of the other options, especially when you pay monthly for it!
In regards to your question, I did speak to a Cast Member earlier today who confirmed that your Annual Pass will not activate until your first visit to the parks. There is a time limit, as you have a year from the date of purchase to do so. If you don't make your first visit by then,
your pass will expire and no refunds will be given. You will however be able to use the value you paid toward a future Annual Pass or a ticket purchase.
Monthly payments will begin immediately upon purchase, so they are not deferred until the activation. An initial deposit is required, then payments will start thereafter. If you do not plan to activate your Annual Pass until October, you will have already paid a few of your payments by then.
I suggest purchasing the Disney Pixie Dust Pass as soon as you are positive that you want it. Walt Disney World is constantly undergoing updates and changes, so it is not guaranteed that this Annual Pass will be available forever. It's best to lock in your purchase, especially since it will not activate until your first visit.
Becoming an Annual Passholder is one of the most exciting aspects of being a Disney Parks fan. Knowing that you can visit the parks on most days (excluding the blockout dates) is an amazing feeling. It also comes equipped with many
discounts on dining and merchandise purchases. If you eat your way through the parks, as I do, or are constantly adding to your Minnie EARs collection like my wife is, you can save on every purchase as a Passholder.
Kristin, I hope you have a magical yEAR as a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder!
See ya real soon!
