We go on a cruise in September 2023. Does Castaway Cay still have the 5k run?

    Hi Treshenna,

Welcome to planDisney and thank you for asking us a question. While I don’t always love running, I do love a good race… and the medal that you get at the end of a race!

I’m happy to say that I was able to add yet another medal to my haul earlier this year during my sailing on the Disney Wish, so I can absolutely confirm that Castaway Cay absolutely does still offer a 5k run for people who would like to participate.

That said, the race is run a little bit differently than in the past. First, there’s no longer a formal start time for this event: it’s done whenever you want, at your own pace, kind of like a virtual race. Because of this, you no longer need to register for the race (or get a bib) and there’s no “on-course” support. You just go pick up your medal at the Bicycle Rentals booth located near the second tram stop (Pelican Point) once you’ve completed the distance.

If you’re planning to run in September, here’s a bit of advice, from one runner to another: it can still get VERY hot in the Bahamas at that time of year. I’d recommend starting your run as early as possible and be sure to bring a water bottle or some other form of hydration with you. Some parts of the run (especially on the former landing strip) have very little shade, so you’ll want to be careful and stay hydrated. Remember: your race, your pace!

Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions.

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
