I am gluten sensitive and will be dining mostly at counter service restaurants. Are the gluten free items labeled or do I need to speak to a manager every time I eat somewhere to find out what I am able to eat?

    Jennifer:

If you are dining at counter-service restaurants at Disney both in the theme parks and in the resorts, the foods that are gluten-free will not be designated on the menu screens. It would be best for you to ask for "the book" when you are ordering--a blue book kept behind the counter that lists all of the ingredients in each of the menu choices offered at that restaurant. It sounds tedious but the cast members are very helpful.

It might be also be good to do some pre-planning before your trip. I have found the Disney Food Blog to be useful in identifying specific choices at restaurants and was a valuable resource when I took a family member last year. The blog had an article titled, "Eating Gluten-Free at Disney World" and it listed other online resources that would be helpful for gluten-free choices.

    Wishing you a magical--and gluten-free--vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
