Hi there, Claire-Welcome Home to planDisney! I'm always excited to meet a fellow Michigander, and I'm happy to help with your question today.
Well, let's get down to business! It is definitely possible to transfer your
Disney Vacation Club Membership to a family member and remove yourself as owner. When you joined Disney Vacation Club, you purchased a real estate interest and have a deed for this interest. Adding or removing someone to the Membership means that an entirely new deed will have to be created and recorded. This must be done under the guidance of an attorney or a title company.
It's especially important to make sure that whoever handles this transaction is familiar with state law in the state where your Home Resort is located. Also, annual dues and any mortgages associated with the Membership must be paid in full. When the new deed is officially recorded, you'll need to email a copy to
Membership Administration for review.
For additional information about Disney Vacation Club contracts and deeds, check out the helpful
Frequently Asked Questions on the DVC website, which has a lot of great information about all sorts of different situations. Because transferring your deed permanently is so--well,
permanent--I personally would recommend consulting with an attorney to talk through any legal or financial implications prior to changing the deed.
Claire, I hope this information is helpful for you! If our planDisney squad can help with any other questions related to your Membership, please visit us again any time.
Warmly,
Susan
