6yo girl doing 2 or 3 parks. She is not into Toy Story or Star Wars and she is not a thrill seeker. So, Hollywood Studios or Epcot, or Magic Kingdom for 2 days? Any other need to know things to sign up for? We'll be at Allstar music.

Hi there, Tracy! Welcome to planDisney and thanks for bringing us this excellent vacation planning question!

It seems like yesterday that I was visiting Walt Disney World with a 6-year-old. Every age is fun, but I especially love this age because they get to enjoy so many attractions for the first time. While two of my kiddos are past this stage of childhood, I’ve still got one more to enjoy it with. So we’ve still got one more first ride on Big Thunder Mountain left! Woo hoo!

It sounds like you know your kiddo’s preferences really well and Hollywood Studios may not be the best experience for them. That leaves us with Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and don’t forget Animal Kingdom. My first tip would be to check out the filter options on the Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app. You’ll find the filters on the Attractions and Entertainment page on the website and the map on the My Disney Experience app. They let you filter all the rides, shows, and experiences based on age, thrill factor, height, interests, and other considerations. It’s a quick and easy way to see what might be the best fit for your 6-year-old.

There are great options for kids at EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, but I’m a huge Magic Kingdom fan and often set aside two days for the most magical place on Earth. My family has never regretted that decision. There is so much for young kids to see and do at Magic Kingdom that it can be difficult to fit it all into one day. Plus, it gives you two chances to see the Happily Ever After fireworks show in case your kiddo can’t stay awake the first time around. In the end, I’d ask your kiddo what characters and types of rides they are most excited to do, and then use that info to pick the filter options for your search.

As far as things you’ll want to know ahead of your visit, be sure that you’ve made your dining reservations if you’re considering eating at any table service restaurants. Reservations can be made 60 days ahead of your visit, so you’ll want to act quickly if you haven’t already. If you’re going to purchase Lightning Lane passes, remember that you can do so seven days in advance of your stay since you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. And remember, since you’re staying at All-Star Music you get to take advantage of Early Entry, which lets you into the parks 30 minutes early to enjoy select attractions. It’s one of the best perks of staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel!

Tracy, I hope this helps you plan the most magical trip. You can send me a follow-up question directly, so let me know what your kiddo likes and I’d be happy to recommend some attractions and experiences for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom. Or you can ask any of our other amazing panelists!

    Magical travels!
