Rising Moons, Courtney, and welcome to a galaxy far, far away! I’m so glad you brought your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’d love to help you plan your upcoming visit to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu in
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
When making your
online reservation to build a custom astromech droid unit, you’ll be asked to guarantee your reservation with a credit card. However, you won’t be charged until you arrive at the
Droid Depot to start your build. Your credit card will only be charged if you fail to cancel your reservation at least one day prior to your reservation. If you’re a no-show, the credit card provided on your reservation will be charged $99.99 per builder. So, I'm happy to report that yes, you can use a gift card to pay for your droid at the Droid Depot, but will need to use a credit card for the online reservation.
Keep in mind that each droid builder may have one guest with them in the building area. I helped my son make his droid, an R-Series unit, a few months ago, and we had so much fun! The experience takes anywhere between 15-20 minutes. If you have a larger group with you, I recommend asking for one of the building stations toward the end of the stations, where the rest of your group can watch from the other side of the short gate.
If you prefer not to make a reservation in advance, Droid Depot can accommodate walk-ins daily, subject to availability. My son and I didn’t have a reservation, and experienced a short wait before we were able to begin the build.
All that building is going to make you thirsty, so I recommend
making a reservation at
Oga’s Cantina at the Disneyland Resort! It’s the best spot to grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) while enjoying the beats of DJ R-3X! I’m a big fan of the
Yub Nub, and my son loves the
Blue Bantha!
Please stop by with any additional questions about traveling to Batuu, or anywhere else in the
Disneyland Resort, Courtney!
‘Til the Spire!
