    Can I use gift cards to give my kids an allowance on the ships? And if so can I preload that via onboard gifts or do I need to bring the card information and apply it to the specific kid's account when we sail?

    Welcome to planDisney and thank you for asking us a question!

    While you can absolutely apply a Disney Gift Card to pay off a portion of your Disney Cruise Line shipboard account, you unfortunately can’t designate how much money each person gets to spend or ensure that a specific Gift Card gets charged for their purchases. 

    If you want to give your kids an “allowance” and allow them to have charging privileges during your upcoming cruise, I’d recommend telling them what their limit is (either daily or for your entire voyage.) You can check who has purchased what, almost in real time, via the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App, which means that you’ll know pretty quickly whether one of them has gone over their designated limit. You can then remove charging privileges, if need be, by visiting the Guest Services Desk at any time during your cruise. It’s the system that I use with my little man (who is now 11) and it works really well!
