Is getting the meal plan the best option...or is it easy to buget cheaper?

    Hi Tracy,

I am a big fan of the Disney Dining Plan, although it's not necessarily because I save money.  It's really more because I like to go on my vacation without having to worry about how much more money I'm going to spend.  A Walt Disney World vacation can get expensive, but with the dining plan, my trip can be paid for in advance. I have nothing left to worry about except tipping and purchasing souvenirs.  For me, that's nice!

For each meal on the dining plan you get an entree, dessert, and a non-alcoholic beverage.  That can add up to a lot of food when you multiply it by your entire family.  If this is the way your family typically eats, then you will definitely save money using the plan.  Also, if you get the regular dining plan and use it to enjoy several character meals, I think you'll find that you save quite a bit.

If, however, you typically share one dessert with your entire family or split entrees between children, the dining plan will be too much food for you.  You could definitely save money by paying out of pocket.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
