Is Genie+ worth it if you have a DAS pass?

    Hello Macarena!

    Welcome to planDisney!

I love talking about Disability Access Service (DAS) to guests. It's such a valuable and free service to those who have a disability and are unable to wait in a traditional queue environment. I also enjoy talking about Disney Genie+ which is an absolute must for when I visit the Parks as it allows me to select Lightning Lane return times for various attractions throughout the day. This is a service guests have to pay for. If you qualify for DAS then you can use this along with Disney Genie+ to create a day filled with attractions with minimal wait. You can also just use them separately. That is a decision you have to make based on your disability and personal vacation style.

    • DAS allows guests to "wait in line" outside the line. For example, if you see that the standby wait time for Jungle Cruise is 45 minutes, you can request a return time that is usually about 45 minutes later. During this period you can rest, eat, use the restrooms, or enjoy another attraction. The entrance you will use is the Lightning Lane one and your guest that qualifies for DAS must be present and able to ride the attraction. Once the return time comes up, it does not disappear. You could return 2 hours later if you like but you are unable to make another DAS reservation until you use or cancel the one you made.
    • Disney Genie+ allows guests to make their first Lightning Lane reservation at 7 AM. The next reservation can be made either two hours after the Park opening or after the last reservation is used. For the rest of the day, reservations can then be made every two hours or again after the last one is used. It's important that you not be late and enter the attraction during your Lightning Lane return window as it can disappear and you will not be able to book it again. The My Disney Experience Mobile App will have a time on top that will let you know when your next booking time will be.  When making reservations you are choosing from a selection of one-hour time blocks that will change throughout the day and may even run out! For example, Jungle Cruise is very popular and the Lightning Lane return time options tend to get later very quickly as people grab it for themselves. As a result, by mid-afternoon or early evening, there is a chance Lightning Lanes for this attraction are no longer available. Lightning Lane returns times with Disney Genie+ are not based on the posted standby wait time so there is a chance you will find a return time that could be immediate! Disney Genie+ requires guests to stay focused on the time and I suggest guests set alarms on their phones so they don't miss a ride or a booking window!
Things to consider is if the person who has the disability can handle the intensity of so many attractions once after the other. It takes thoughtful planning to make an itinerary using DAS and Disney Genie+ that doesn't require you to travel back and forth around the Park. However, having Disney Genie+ is great in situations where there is an attraction the person with the disability does not want to ride but everyone else does. In that situation, since the person with DAS is not riding, you will not be able to use DAS so Disney Genie+ comes to save the day! It's so helpful to have options!

Once you're registered for DAS you will be set for your whole trip! However, Disney Genie+ is purchased daily. Consider trying it out for one day to see if it's worth it for the other days of your trip. Happy Planning!
