    Genie passes

Hello, Michael! Thank you for swinging by planDisney with your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning question. As you know, many decisions must be made when planning your visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth. From choosing the perfect Disney Resorts Collection hotel to making advanced dining reservations and dining with your favorite Disney characters, many options are available to make your vacation memorable. Once you’ve gotten to the point that you have purchased Theme Park Tickets, you need to decide if Disney Genie+ is something you should add to your visit, and in my opinion, the answer is yes!

When it comes to experiencing the various attractions and entertainment throughout Disney World, guests have various options: waiting in traditional queues, Virtual Queues, Disney Genie, Individual Lightning Lanes, and Disney Genie+ (which encompasses Lightning Lanes).

Virtual Queues are accessible through your My Disney Experience App and are used for select attractions, typically when the rides are first introduced in the parks, so Guests can enjoy the rest of the park while they “wait.” As of this answer, only TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind utilize Virtual Queues, so there is no standby line/queue. You could expect Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to join this list when it opens, but that is just my guess, not a guarantee. Joining a Virtual Queue is free, can be requested at 7:00 AM and/or 1:00 PM (with certain restrictions), is limited in availability, and does not guarantee the ability to experience the ride.

Disney Genie Service is a free service that gives you access to My Day, which helps you plan your day based on how you answer a few simple questions. It also includes the Tip Board, which will show you estimated wait times, allow you to order food on your mobile device, and join the virtual queues mentioned above.

Individual Lightning Lanes are for select attractions not offered through Genie+ and are considered Á La Carte purchases. Some popular rides, such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Avatar Flight of Passage, are examples of Individual Lightning Lane attractions.

Disney Genie+ Service needs to be purchased each day of your visit (price fluctuates by day and park) and allows Guests to use Lightning Lane entrances at select attractions and experiences. Guests that purchase Genie+ can make one Lightning Lane selection at a time, and the first selection can be made at 7:00 AM. Once you redeem a Lightning Lane selection, you can book another, or if two hours have passed since your last selection, you can book another (*Say your first selection isn’t until the afternoon; the two-hour clock would start at park opening). These selections are for specific attractions or experiences to a particular time window.

I suggest watching the various How-to Videos available so you have a better understanding of how these different options will work. The last thing you want to do is wake up on your first park day to learn this process and miss out on some of the harder-to-get Virtual Queues or Lightning Lane return times! Let me know if you still have questions and want me to dig a little deeper!
