Hey there, Yesendi! Welcome to planDisney. You have come to the right place to learn about all the cosmically wonderful things about using
Disney Genie+ at the Happiest Place on Earth.
I have used
Disney Genie+ on every trip to the parks since Genie came out of his lamp. Even on the busiest days at the parks, my family and I can enjoy all the attractions we want to, because of the shorter queues with Genie+.
The shorter queues are called
Lightning Lanes. There are 19 attractions across the two parks that have Lightning Lanes, plus three additional popular attractions that have Individual Lightning Lanes, for a la carte purchase. You can find the full list of Lightning Lane attractions
here.
Here is what you will need to do, to let Genie out of his lamp!
~ If you didn’t add Genie+ to your ticket at time of purchase, no problem. Once you have scanned in at the entrance of the parks, you can open the
Disneyland mobile app, go to My Genie Day, then My Day, and click the link labeled “Get Disney Genie+ for Today.”
~ You can purchase Genie+ for yourself and any others whose tickets are linked to your account; it will give you the option when you purchase.
~ Once you have added Genie+, go to Tip Board and you’ll see the attractions that have Lightning Lanes. For instance, Space Mountain will show a Standby Line wait time, and a LL Disney Genie+ time. That LL Disney Genie+ time is the beginning of a one hour return window you can reserve for a Lightning Lane.
~ Once you book a Lightning Lane, the next time you can book one is (1) once you have redeemed it or (2) 120 minutes later. For example, let’s say you booked Space Mountain at 8:30 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. return time. The next time you can book another Lightning Lane is at 10:30 a.m., because it has been two hours, even though you haven’t redeemed the Space Mountain one yet. (Tip - set an alarm on your phone to remind you when you book your next one!)
I could go on and on about how much I love Genie+, because it has saved me literally hours and hours of waiting in lines! Less time spent in line means more time spent enjoying the magic of other attractions, entertainment, and relaxing to enjoy snacks and meals. (Tip - bring a mobile charger for your phone, as Genie will require strength from your phone to use his cosmic powers.)

Enjoy your magic carpet ride, Yesendi!
