    Can Genie+ be linked to existing MagicBands? As the only person with the Disney app in a group of 8, I’m hoping (if available before our visit) that lightning lane passes can link to my group via MagicBands instead of having to pull out my phone all day.

    Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question! I know many Guests are excited about the arrival of Genie and Genie+ and are hopeful it will be launching soon. I wish I had an exact date to give you so you would know if it would be available for your vacation, but Mickey still hasn’t made an announcement.

    In terms of how it works, I think I can help you out with that! It helps to understand how MagicBands and My Disney Experience work. Essentially, there is nothing “on” the MagicBand, instead, everything is “on” My Disney Experience. The MagicBand simply communicates back with My Disney Experience like a key, to know what you have access to. So basically your entitlements like tickets, PhotoPass, and Genie are all associated with a Guest on My Disney Experience. Then you access those entitlements via a MagicBand, Disney MagicMobile, or a Key to the World Card.

    So how will this work for your trip? If Genie+ goes live in time for your visit, and you wish to purchase it, it will need to be added to everyone’s park tickets. If you manage all of their tickets, you’ll need to use your My Disney Experience Mobile App to add Genie+ to those tickets. From there, you will also need to use your app to choose and select your next Lightning Lane attraction. If you don’t want to be the only one doing this or you plan to separate into smaller groups, you could give the other adults in your party your sign-in information for My Disney Experience, and they can download the app on their own mobile devices to make Lightning Lane selections for themselves. Once they arrive at the selected Lightning Lane attraction, they will use their MagicBands to access the Lightning Lane.

    I know you were hoping to avoid pulling out your phone, but if you are the one that manages everyone’s trip on your My Disney Experience Account, that will be the account that selects the Lightning Lane attractions for Guests on that account. If you are wondering if there will be mobile kiosks set up where Guests can tap their MagicBands and make selections, Disney has not announced whether this will be available or not, so we will need to await further details on that option.
