Hello Alyssa,
Thanks for stopping by
planDisney with your question. Whether you are visiting
Walt Disney World next week, next year, or someday, it's always a great idea to know about all of the options that can make your vacation even more magical.
The old FastPass lines that you may remember have a new name. The lines are now called
Lightning Lanes, and there are two different ways to access these lines: 1) Disney Genie+ and 2) purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane for a specific attraction.
Disney Genie+ is the most common way to be able to book Lightning Lanes for over 40 attractions throughout the park. You can add this service to your existing tickets each day of your visit beginning at midnight. The process is super easy using
My Disney Experience App on your mobile device. On the home screen you'll see a purple box that will invite you to "add even more magic to your visit" by purchasing Genie+. Simply click the button and follow the prompts to set up the service for you and any other guests in your party. If you think you want to add Genie+, I recommend making the purchase before 7:00 AM; that's when you'll be able to select your first Lightning Lane for the day.
Once you've purchased Disney Genie+ and are ready to make your first selection. Click on the hamburger menu (3 horizontal lines) at the bottom of your My Disney Experience App. Then select
Tip Board and make sure you are looking at the park that you will be visiting. From there you can scroll down and see which attractions have a
LL Disney Genie+ option. Those are the attractions you can choose from when making your selections. Lightning Lane selections are made one at a time. In order to make another selection you'll need to either enter a Lightning Lane for your most recently selected attraction, or wait 120 minutes to make another selection. It sounds complicated, but once you start using the service you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.
A couple of the most popular attractions in each park are not included with Disney Genie+. To enter Lightning Lanes for these rides, you will need to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane. Basically, each guest who wants to skip the line will pay a fee to be able to select a Lightning Lane return time. You'll be able to identify these attractions on the Tip Board as they are labeled
LL Individual Lightning Lane and include a purchase price per guest. If you are a
Walt Disney World Resort Hotel guest you'll be able to purchase Individual Lightning Lanes at 7:00 AM; otherwise, you can purchase them once the park you are visiting opens for the day.
TIP:
Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane purchases are not linked, meaning you can make a Genie+ Lightning Lane selection AND purchase an Individual Lightning Lane at the same time.
Hope this helps. Enjoy planning your next magical vacation!
