Hello Kathleen, thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
This is a great question! It is absolutely a-okay for you to grab a dining reservation at any of the Walt Disney World restaurants and just order desserts and drinks. It is your vacation and you can do what you want.
Here's another idea to keep in mind, if you can't land some of the dining reservations you are looking for, try going to one of the lounges or bars that are attached to those restaurants. Often times, you'll find some of the same appetizers and desserts on these menus as you would inside the actual restaurant. My favorite lounge is the
Tambu Lounge which is located right outside of 'Ohana at Disney's Polynesian Resort. Like with any of the lounges and bars, these seats and small tables are available on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations required. On the menu at Tambu Lounge, they offer the same grilled skewered meat that is served in the restaurant. Of course, it's smaller portions but that means it's easier on the belly and the pocketbook. Another great one is the
California Grill Lounge. California Grill is a very popular restaurant and I find it difficult to make reservations there sometimes. However, since anyone can head up to the lounge, it's perfect. The view from the lounge is just as spectacular and the artisanal cheese platter is fantastic. If you are wanting that full restaurant experience, however, it's perfectly fine to go and only order what you want. There's no pressure.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to come back and ask. Enjoy!
